National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Course

Governed by the RLSS (Royal Life Saving Society) the NPLQ course is designed to teach life guarding skills. The RLSS is the longest established lifesaving organisation in the world and is Britain’s foremost provider of training and education in the water. The NPLQ is the industry’s standard requirement and so in order to lifeguard in the UK, you are now required to possess this qualification.

The course itself covers a variety of topics, with a mix of theory and practical based skills. Areas covered include:

  • CPR
  • First aid
  • Lifeguarding theory and skills
  • Rescue skills
  • Spinal cord injury management
  • Health and Safety

Requirements for course are:

  • You must be over 16 years of age
  • Have a basic level of physical and water fitness
  • Be able to jump or dive into deep water
  • Able to swim 50 metres in one minute or less
  • Able to swim 100 metres continuously on front and back
  • Able to climb out of pool unaided without use of steps.

Olympic Open Day 2011

On Saturday 23rd July, Towcester Centre for Leisure opened their doors for an Olympic themed Open Day.  All members of the local community were invited to try a range of activities to celebrate '1 year to go' until the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games. 

Activities included:

Climbing Wall; Skate Park; Bike Racing, Boxing, Martial Arts; Northampton Town FC Mascot Penalty shoot out; No Strings Badminton;  Athletics Challenge;  Circus Skills ; Creative Canvas Art; Play Rangers Wii Olympics; Superstars Event; Canoeing ; Waterpolo; Athletics; Zumba; Morris dancing ; Cheerleading; Live Music with Towcester Rock School; Art Competition and a grand finale from Blaze Dance Relay Live.
